about scout by scout

Scout is a designer and jewellery maker currently based in London. She studied Fine Art and Art History at Goldsmiths, and went on to an MA in Archaeology at University College London, where she focused on archaeological theory and aesthetic interpretation.

In addition to artifact forms, her work references modernist and postmodern design and various strains of futurist aesthetics.

Scout by Scout is a design project that came from a desire to bring all these interests together and to share this work with other people.

All pieces are designed and hand made by Scout in her south London studio.

production

Here’s some of the primary methods currently being implemented to reduce waste in the design and production process:

  • sourcing used materials. Some pieces are entirely made using reclaimed beads, others feature a mix of old and new materials (this is noted in product descriptions)

  • producing on a made to order basis . This eliminates a lot of waste in the short term, and allows me to retain materials for future uses

  • casting. All resin pieces are also made to order and poured in very small batches, and I also reuse many of the materials that go into the mold making and cast making process

  • packaging is all recycled and/or compostable material. The mailer is potato starch from food waste, and is compostable, the box and stickers are 100% biodegradable recycled material, and the tissue paper is also compostable and made from 100% recycled material
